I had a mixed experience at the Sun Hotel. While the historic atmosphere and prime location near Canterbury Cathedral were good, I faced several inconveniences. The cleanliness was commendable, but the shower didn’t work properly and the bedding felt worn. Overall, it was a decent stay yet not without its flaws.

Rooms

The room was spacious and had a unique charm, but the bedding was quite worn, and the shower was disappointing.
Service

The staff were friendly and helpful, enhancing my experience despite some issues with the facilities.
Location

Located right in the heart of Canterbury, the hotel was perfectly situated for exploring the old city and nearby attractions.
Dining

Breakfast options were limited, with a traditional English breakfast or scrambled eggs on toast, which was decent but not excellent.

Unfortunately, the shower didn't function at all and the drains were slow, highlighting a need for some maintenance.

5.8/10

I recently stayed at the Sun Hotel for two nights and while the location was fantastic, right in the heart of Canterbury, my experience had its ups and downs. The building is charming and historic, but the service was lacking, with the manager hardly engaging with us. The breakfast options felt a bit basic, and there were some issues with the heating in the room, leaving it quite cold at night.

Rooms
6.0
The room I stayed in was spacious and fairly clean, but the mattress was too soft for my liking, and I rolled into the middle during the night. The bathroom was newly renovated with a great shower, which was a nice touch.
Service
5.0
The service was disappointing mainly due to the manager's unfriendly demeanor. I did find some of the staff members friendly, but overall it didn't feel welcoming enough given the price we paid.
Location

The hotel's location couldn't be better, it's right by the cathedral and near all the key attractions in the city center, making exploring Canterbury super easy.
Dining
5.0
Breakfast was alright but quite basic. We had a choice between scrambled eggs on toast or a full English, and while it was well-cooked, there were no extras like fruit or juice, which I found a bit underwhelming.
Facilities
5.0
Unfortunately, the wifi was non-functional during my stay, which was frustrating. The heating also didn’t seem to be working as it got quite cold at night, plus the TV in the room wasn’t operational. These factors really detracted from the overall comfort.

My stay at the Sun Hotel was overall pleasant, especially due to its fantastic location and historic charm. The room was beautifully modern yet retained an old-world ambiance, although I found it a bit noisy at times. The breakfast options were adequate but not particularly exciting. I'd certainly return for the experience and convenience.

I stayed in the Dickens' Room, which was excellent with modern amenities and lovely decor. However, it was small and quite noisy as it overlooked the street.
Service
8.0
The staff was welcoming and helpful, although I felt one of them could have been more engaging. They did help with general inquiries about the area.
Location

The hotel is right in the center of Canterbury, just a stone's throw away from the cathedral and surrounded by restaurants and shops.
Dining

Breakfast was a traditional English fare or scrambled eggs on toast, which was good but not particularly impressive. It filled me up but didn't wow me.
Facilities

The hotel had basic amenities, and while my room was clean, the lack of a more extensive breakfast option and parking information was a downside for me.

My stay at the Sun Hotel was an interesting blend of charm and challenges. The historical ambiance and friendly staff were definite highlights, making for a cozy atmosphere. However, my experience was marred by some discrepancies in room information and limited dining options. Overall, it offered a unique stay but fell short in a few areas. 😊

I stayed in the Pilgrims room, which was fine for one but felt a bit cramped for two. While it had a cozy charm and storage under the bed, I noticed some details were outdated or inaccurate compared to what I'd read online. The room's decor was unique, but I was expecting more amenities, like a properly functioning spa bath.
Service
7.0
The staff were exceptionally welcoming and went out of their way to help, which truly enhanced my experience. However, there were moments where it felt like customer service could improve, particularly when I had issues with my room. A bit more attentiveness would have made a difference.
Location

The location was fantastic, right in the center near the cathedral and various attractions. This made it really convenient for exploring Canterbury on foot. I loved being able to step out and enjoy the vibrant surroundings! 🏰
Dining

Dining at the El Sol restaurant offered a few choices like scrambled eggs or a traditional English breakfast. While these were adequate, they didn’t quite meet my expectations for a nice meal—just very basic options that felt a bit underwhelming.
Facilities

The hotel didn't serve breakfast formally, which was a surprise. Instead, there were only packets of cereal and some bowls with fresh milk. The dining setup felt quite cold and lacked the ambiance I hoped for in a dining experience.

I had a mixed stay at the Sun Hotel. The charm of the historic building and its prime location near the cathedral were highlights, but there were a few downsides, like the inconsistencies in the breakfast options and the unfriendly service from the manager. Overall, it had its lovely moments, but I wouldn't say it was perfect.

Rooms
6.0
I stayed in the Chaucer room, which was spacious with a new bathroom, but it had a soft mattress that wasn't great for sleep. The decor felt a bit outdated, and even though the wooden furnishings had character, the softness of the mattress meant I rolled into the center.
Service
5.0
While some staff were friendly, the manager’s unwelcoming attitude really put a damper on things. I expected a bit more warmth and attentiveness, especially given the hotel's unique charm.
Location
9.0
The hotel’s location is great, right in the heart of Canterbury. It’s just a short walk to the high street and the stunning cathedral, which was super convenient for exploring.
Dining
7.0
Breakfast options were decent but nothing special. I had scrambled eggs on toast, which was fine but could've used some extras like fruit or yogurt to elevate it. On the other hand, dinner at the Tapas restaurant was a standout experience with delicious dishes.
Facilities
5.0
The amenities were minimal, with issues like no working Wi-Fi or TV during my stay. The charm of the historic building was overshadowed by these shortcomings, leaving me wanting more from the facilities.
